Maison Calvaire is set in the beautiful Normandy countryside near the village of Le Plessis Lastelle and is ideally located as it is only a 45 minutes drive from the ferry port of Cherbourg or a 1hr.15 minute drive from Caen. The D Day landing beaches are a 25 minute drive from the cottage and beaches on the west coast are 20 minute drive away

Maison Calvaire is a two storey detached house set in about half an acre of secure garden. There are 5 bedrooms, 6.WCs, 3 shower rooms, and 1 bathroom with over-bath shower. On the ground floor there is a large lounge, a kitchen and a dining room opening on to a large south facing patio. The house is Ideal for large and small families.

Comfortable furnished lounge with a large glass screened fire place. English satellite television with DVD player and video recorder with a large selection of videos and DVDs. There is also a large bookcase with reading books and a selection of games.

The classic country kitchen

Spacious Kitchen with fully equipped with modern units, ceramic hob, oven and a combination microwave, fridge and a George Foreman grill. A large patio window overlooks the front garden. Above the double sink a window looks onto the decking and back garden. The pantry is located behind a sliding door next to the kitchen.

Dining Room

Located next to the kitchen a large beech table with 10 dining chairs and four easy leather chairs. The Dining room has a large patio window leading out to the decking area with a large table and chairs.

En-Suite Bedroom

En- Suite bedroom with double bed, pine wardrobe, pine dressing table and two bedside tables. The en-suite has WC, washbasin and shower unit. The window overlooks the back garden and countryside.

Bedroom with futon style double bed, pine chest of drawers, bedside table and open clothes rail. The window looks into the back garden and countryside.

Twin Bedroom

Twin bedroom has twin beds, side tables and three small pine chests of drawers. This room has a velux window overlooking the back garden and countryside.

En-Suite Family Bedroom

Family Bedroom with double bed, triple wardrobe, dressing table and bed side cabinets. This bedroom has a window overlooking the front garden and Calvaire, the velux window looks into the back garden.

This room leads into a small bedroom with two single divan beds, seperate bathroom with shower, washbasin & WC.

  • The cottage is centrally headed by electric panel heaters

To the rear of the house the dining room patio door opens up onto a large south facing decking patio with large patio table and chairs. The patio overlooks a large lawn. Ideal for a family game of football or cricket.

At the front of the house a long hedge lined drive leads from the road to the house. There is adequate off road parking for three cars. Each side of the drive there are sheltered lawn areas.

Surrounding Area

Le Plessis Lastelle is set in the National regional Park of Marais Du Cotentin et Du Bessin. At the end of the village is the remains of a castle, Le donjon built in 1047 by William the Conquer on top of the castle is a Calvaire with a viewing platform with a 365 degree view of the Normandy countryside.

In World War II the battle of Mont Castre & Le Plessis Lastelle took part on hill 122 in the village. A monument opposite the local School stands in memory of the fallen in the battle.

A less than a ten minute drive towards La Haye-Du-Puits is Mont Castre the remains of a Roman fortification in 56 B.C. a garrison of 18,000 Roman soldiers under the command of Quintus, Titinus and Sabinus were stationed at Mont Castre.

The town of La Haye Du Puits is a 10 minute drive from the cottage and is a small bustling town with many shops, including supermarkets, restaurants and bars, boulangeries/patisseries, butchers/charcuterie, pharmacy, newsagent, hairdressers, post-office, petrol station. The town has a street market every Wednesday morning.


Barneville - Carteret A short drive away with views of the Channel Islands.

Sciotot Well worth a visit it has large waves and a sandy beach that stretches for miles.

Utah - miles of sandy beach with monuments and museums of World War II.
